An abrupt terrain of fiords and rocks is the jewel of Norway’s natural heritage. For this reason it has been deemed necessary to provide the most frequented routes in the area with a series of service outposts. Hence, besides the waste bins and informational panels not actually linked to any particular project, are those structures that are custom-designed solutions to demands imposed by the site itself. At Liasanden, wood splints are used to protect the exposed bases of treetrunks from possible impacts, while invoking the feeling of being deep inside the forest even along the road’s edge. A zigzag scheme in Videseter Foss increases the inertia of a guard rail that might otherwise collapse under snow avalanches. And concrete tables now form a picnic area beside Lake Vågåmo, resembling a group of sculptures in the landscape...
