With a design titled ‘Camino de olas’ (Wave Walk) the Danish firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) has won the international competition to build an innovation hub for the Basque Culinary Center (BCC) in the Gros neighborhood of San Sebastián. The other four teams shortlisted were: 3xn (Denmark), OMA–Office of Metropolitan Architecture (Netherlands), Snøhetta (Norway), and Toyo Ito & Associates (Japan).

The existing BCC site is located in the Miramon zone , and this second building, conceived as an architectural extension of the city’s urban landscape in the Zubiri-Manteo area, next to the Okendo Culture House, will bridge science and gastronomy in 9,000 square meters of facilities for experimentation, research, technological development, and teaching, always with the idea of respecting the surroundings and blending in through sustainable solutions. Hence the green roof, envisioned as a prolongation of the mountain. On a budget of 26 million euros, construction is programmed to begin in March 2023, for completion by the end of 2024.
