Centrally Located near the railway complex formed by King’s Cross and St. Pancras stations, Google’s future London base will be the company’s first wholly owned and designed building outside the US. The new 11-story building will be part of a large campus that will include Google’s current base at 6 Pancras Square and a third construction. The ensemble will take in some 7,000 employees and become a benchmark technology hub within the ‘Knowledge Quarter,’ the collective of knowledge- and culture-based enterprises and institutions concentrated in this area of the British capital.
The design presents a bold volume 330 meters long with interiors cascading across multiple floors, in a continuous space conducive to collaboration among workers. In tune with the other projects developed with Heatherwick Studio for Google, it proposes a flexible interior layout that can be adapted in the future to new ways of organizing work. The building will have a green roof as well as retail spaces, auditoriums, and market halls at ground level that will be instrumental in integrating it into the functional fabric of the city at large.
