The Sabadell-based studio Harquitectes has transformed an old industrial building located in Esplugues de Llobregat into the corporate headquarters of the pharmaceutical company Galenicum. With a new envelope that provides better insulation to cool the indoor spaces, the project takes advantage of the existing structural capacity, large space, and good lighting conditions.

Climatized with radiant floor cooling, the different departments are organized in families that create a circle around interior gardens, favoring interaction. The series of rings, which combine transparent and operable panels with wooden surfaces, avoid interference with the existing pillars, located in the courtyards or between cloisters to create technical passages for bathrooms and archives. The space that is not taken up by the cloisters and is closest to the north facade is devised as a public space for leisure, for food-related events where the kitchen becomes the activity hub. Lastly, the building’s central courtyard is rounded off with an open cloister filled with vegetation, and which functions as a large distributor leading to all the ring workspaces and the breakout zone.
