Regional Hospital Extension in Salzburg

Thomas Pucher envisions for Salzburg an 89,000 m2 complex where the fundamental concept of the enlargement is based on guaranteeing optimal connection between the different areas. Winner of an international competition, the project also makes the operations of the hospital easy to understand by physically and formally fragmenting the various programs. Thus, a gridded structure contains the consultation, diagnosis and treatment facilities; a cross-shaped volume accommodates the nursing departments; and finally a rectangular block housing the laboratories stitches together the entire complex, which is perforated by a series of inner courtyards where trees are planted.
