San Blas is one of the historical towns of the Riviera Nayarita, which stretches along the coast of the Mexican state of Nayarit. The Secretariat of Agrarian, Land, and Urban Development (SEDATU) sponsored the project to adapt the San Blas Pier to serve tourist boats and a ferry shuttling people to and from the Islas Marías, the site of an old high-surveillance prison which is now visitable. Colectivo 733’s scheme includes a 14,000-square-meter public park, commercial areas, and a crafts market. Also incorporating vegetation and water, the complex features an elongated pavilion with a concave roof of eucalyptus wood and a metal structure. It resembles the hull of an inverted ship. Inside are a sports court, events venues, and access to a dock. The overall chromatic composition is defined by the ochre of the wood, the reddish tones of the mud, and the pigmented concrete, which changes in texture and patterns along the landscape.
