The historical customs building of San Blas, a port city in the Mexican state of Nayarit, preserved its ground level and an old corridor. Commissioned by the Secretariat for Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development (SEDATU), the project aimed to consolidate the adobe remnants of the original structure and incorporate exhibition spaces and workshops for the cultural uplifting of the community. The composition of planes combines preserved adobe bricks with new ceramic pieces produced locally.

The courtyard now features a metal bridge, a viewing platform and vertical walkway leading visitors to the rooftop of the old building and to that of the workshops. In addition, a forum-like open-air space takes in the square shape of a Sikuli or god’s eye, which for the Huichol ethnic group represents the composition of the universe and its relationship with humans and nature.
