The hermitage Hotel, located on the shore of Lake Lucerne and facing Mount Pilatus, is set to undergo a transformation. The current hotel, a blend of structures from different eras, will be renovated and consolidated into a harmonious, visually striking building that honors its unique and spectacular location. A new, large public entrance hall will connect the two existing buildings, unifying them into one ensemble with two wings. The ensemble will expand with two additional levels in a light wood construction. Moreover, the existing facades will be covered with a filigree wood structure and a layer of wood balconies facing the lake. Building on the built preserves the existing and historically valuable, small-scale structures such as a barn, baths, and boat house and leaves room for an open green space. A new residential building across the street on a hill will be a second extension. The slender wood building will be a counterpart to the hotel, similarly fitted with timber loggias, forming an animated streetscape at the city’s entrance...[+]
