Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has won the competition to build the Vltava Philharmonic Hall by the river in Prague’s Holešovice district. Barozzi Veiga and Bevk Perović arhitekti placed second and third. In BIG’s winning scheme, the building is accessible from all directions and levels thanks to a stepped form that features open-air terraces and a traversible roof, creating ample public spaces around. Combining glass and wood, the facilities will harbor three concert halls, the new homes of the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK) and the Czech Philharmonic, and the music department of the Municipal Library, with educational programs for the public. For good high views of the city, one will be able to reach the rooftop without necessarily entering the building. Construction work is to commence in 2027, for completion in 2032
