The British firm AL-A, led by Amanda Levete, has won the competition to build a concert hall in Ušće Park, along the stretch of the Danube River that flows through the Serbian capital. Its entry carried the day over those of the five other teams that made it to the final phase: Estudio Lamela + Paredes Pedrosa; Bevk Perović; Diller Scofidio + Renfro; MVRDV; and Snøhetta.

The building’s expressive forms seek to evoke musical movement, and the material makeup of its envelope produces a rippling effect with the surroundings mirrored. Four curved volumes encircling a central space contain two auditoriums seating 1600 and 400. Completion of the building is programmed for 2028.
