Athletics baseball stadium in Las Vegas
BIG Bjarke Ingels Group- Type Sport Stadium
- City Las Vegas
- Country United States
The firm BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) – in collaboration with HNTB – has won the competition to build a baseball stadium in Las Vegas on a 3.6-hectare site on Las Vegas Boulevard, between Tropicana and Reno Boulevards. It will be the new home of the Athletics Major League Baseball team, which is moving to Nevada from Oakland, California.
The 33,000-capacity ballpark presents a sculptural roof formed by five overlapping metal-clad shells. The composition of the pennant-like shells will attenuate direct sunlight while welcoming indirect natural light onto the playing field through clerestory windows. An outdoor plaza directs fans to the main concourse, which features a large glass atrium. An air-conditioning system distributes at the seats instead of from above, making cooling more efficient and energy-saving. The stadium is programmed to be ready to open in the spring of 2028.
