Casa Umbral (Threshold House) stands out for its unique ceramic facade and its carefully designed openings and volumes that both ensure privacy and connect with the exterior. With a total area of 768 square meters it is organized in four volumes: one toward the street Gutiérrez Canales, acting as a filter between the outside world and the home, and three opening out to the garden.

The facade, executed with modular brick pieces in a terracotta tone, creates a gridded lattice that besides being visually stunning, enhances the building’s energy efficiency, contributing to passive control of indoor climate. The outer wall is an integral component of the built-in furniture, both fragmenting and connecting the main domestic spaces.

The kitchen, an office, and the living room are on the ground floor. Large windows provide views and direct access to the private garden while giving the interior much luminosity and breadth. The bedrooms are upstairs, so have an extra degree of privacy.
