OPPO headquarters in Hangzhou

BIG Bjarke Ingels Group

Dubbed ‘O-Tower,’ the skyscraper designed by the Danish firm BIG, headed by Bjarke Ingels, as new R&D headquarters for the Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO will rise in the city of Hangzhou’s Yuhang District. Surrounded by a natural lake, an urban hub, and a 10,000-square-meter park, the building rises in the form of a slanting infinity loop to reduce energy consumption and optimize natural light and views. It is to this end that the building’s south end is lower, and triple-height openings and interconnected terraces are created underneath the sloping roof. At the heart of the circular building is a publicly accessible central court that pours out to the park. The first three levels contain exhibition galleries and conference facilities, while the higher levels are given over to offices.
