The demand for exhibition space and the addition of an auditorium for large performances required the extension of the FIBES Exhibition and Congress Center in Seville, designed by the Spanish architect Antonio Velázquez Sáseta and opened in 1989. The Sevillian Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra is the author of the expansion project, with a new building that allows increasing by sixty percent the original surface to complete a 90,000-square- meter complex. The initial project, won in a competition held in 2003, proposed occupying three plots adjacent to the original complex, defining a clover-shaped plan with three leaves. The finally executed project has an L shape and is crossed at its apex by a street. The lobby rests on a seven-meter high concrete podium. In the main front, a curtain wall supported by an aluminum structure opens the lobby to the north.
