In the heart of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, at 12 Rue Jean-Bart, this 8-unit apartment building includes a daycare facility. With its massing and layout, it completes the front of a typical Parisian city block. Vertical openings and the use of limestone connect it to this context formally and materially. The gentle curves of the facade, accentuated in the higher floors, gives the building a strong identity. The floorplan is structured by a sequence of spaces: stairs, landing, foyer, and room, concatenated and forming a void that lets natural light in and affords views. Conceived with a numerically controlled model for optimizing cuts and saving material, the facade reinterprets Parisian moldings through limestone and white joineries. The stone elements are self-supporting and come from a nearby quarry.
