At the foot of the Collserola mountains, this university residence for the British company Vita Student is located in Barcelona's Pedralbes neighborhood. All of its 274 rooms face the exterior. The ventilated facade presents a greenish ceramic finish and its modular composition is emphasized by a grid of aluminum louvers. The south and west sides – the ones most exposed to the sun – open out to the garden with balconies where plants provide solar protection, while the north and east sides, in direct contact with the street, show an alternation of opaque and transparent surfaces.
The volumes are arranged in such a way that much of the site is open space where we find a swimming pool, an amphitheater, and a barbecue area. Preexisting trees are respected. On the roof, which gives exceptional views of the city, features another zone for communal amenities and socializing.
The building was designed under strict sustainability and energy-saving criteria, with a thermal envelope and a massing that minimize consumption and CO₂ emissions.
