Renovation of a dwelling on Calle Córcega in Barcelona

Estudio CO–A

The Barcelona firm Estudio CO-A, founded by Clara Ocaña, has renovated this 1930s dwelling of long corridors, typical in the elongated morphology of the standard floor plan of apartments in the Eixample, where the buildings is located. The client required that the layout work either for a residence or for a residence and a studio, independent from one another, hence the decision to put a new kitchen at the center, where natural lighting in scant. The paneling of the doors enables them to disappear when they are open and go unnoticed when closed. Establishing a dialogue between old and new, the project preserves elements like Nolla hydraulic mosaic floors, ceramic ceilings with moldings, and wooden beams and joineries, in combination with new materials like natural oakwood for flooring, marble for wet zones, and screens of striated glass.
