The Spanish firms MACH (Laia Gelonch Llongarrium, Marc Subirana Ribera) + IDEA (Carlos Maristany Ortiz, Luis Bellera Fernández de la Cruz, Eduardo Palao Valverde) have placed first in the competition for new sport facilities in Žatec, a town in the Louny District of the Ústo nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. Meant mainly for ball sports, their winning scheme nestles the program under a four-pitched timber roof, drawing inspiration from rural architecture. The building tries to generate domestic atmospheres in a large-scale project by defining small and medium interstitial spaces between exterior and interior. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2023.
