This modest industrial building, small in scale yet state of the art, stands in an exceptional location, a UNESCO world heritage site that hosts the Villa del Trebbio, the first Medici villa outside Florence, and possibly the first Renaissance villa in the world. The production facility, an olive oil mill, delimits a simple square in the midst of the olive groves. The efficient square building is overlaid by a sloping circular roof dotted with rocks extracted from the surrounding fields. Floating parallel to the topography of the landscape, this circular form becomes the main facade of the building and provides a contemporary addition to a unique yet fragile natural and architectural environment. Inside, the presses take up a double-height space containing offices, bottling area, and tasting room...
