Four kilometers to the northwest of Granada lays the Almanjáyar area, a place whose character is yet to be defined. Inscribed within the heterogeneous layout foreseen in the regulating plan of the neighborhood – which includes residential and commercial uses as well as facilities – the new administrative building of the Junta de Andalucía distinctly takes on its role as urban landmark. In a corner plot, contiguous to the tree-lined avenue that organizes this area of the city and next to a low-rise shopping center, this building asserts its autonomy, distancing itself from the neighboring alignments by means of poplars planted in a grid pattern with interweaving pedestrian paths. The ground floor and basements are devoted to complementary uses in four staggering and geometrically irregular buildings which encircle a rectangular courtyard. The individual offices are arranged around this patio while the open working spaces adapt to the perimetral shifts. In this way, the vertical openings of the individual cells pierce the facade of the central void while horizontal window strips on the exterior facade display the free organization of the collective working areas without revealing its structural divisions...
