The new building of the company BIP Computers goes up in a residential área of the commune of Providencia, in Santiago Province. The plot assigned is located in a zone where the current construction codes allow building up to twelve heights, but the office volume chooses to go up only three, maintaining the two single-family houses that have been there since 1936. With the objective of avoiding the building’s demolition in the possible case that the plot of land be sold in the future, the volume is made entirely of laminated wood, enabling an easy disassembly and later reassembly in a different location.
The wood structure has been built using a single piece measuring nine centimeters long and 34 centimeters wide, used for columns, beams and staircase steps. The prevailing material is pine wood from renewable forests, and was chosen because the design aimed to follow ecological criteria, and this material produces low carbon dioxide emissions to the environment.
