Located on the banks of Aveyron River as it goes by Nègrepelisse, a small rural community in the French Midi-Pyrénées region, La Cuisine Art Center is a cultural space devoted to culinary art, understood as an integral activity linked to the territory and to the farming and livestock tradition. The fortress, the origins of which date back to the 13th century, has a strong iconic identity because of its walled precinct wrapped around a large parade ground. Along this line, the intervention in the castle emphasizes the original layout, attaching the pieces in the program to three of its four sides, to in this way free up the central space and revitalize it as a point of connection and an activity stage for the whole town. The intervention, almost imperceptible from the exterior, minimizes its impact on the interior through the homogeneity of the materials used: glass and Corten steel. The access to the precinct is through the west, through a porticoed front of steel cut out of the stone wall and leading directly to the parade ground. The north side contains a room for cooking lessons, an exhibition hall and another screening or lecture room, while the workshops and administration spaces face south.
