The European Commission and the Fundació van der Rohe have revealed the names of the finalists in the competition for the 2022 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, five in the principal Architecture section and two under Emerging Architecture.
The five shortlisted for the main Architecture accolade are: 85 social housing units in Cornellá de Llobregat (Barcelona) by Peris + Toral arquitectes; the Frizz23 mixed-use building in Berlin by Deadline (Britta Jürgens + Matthew Griffin); the Railway Farm in Paris by Grand Huit and Melanie Drevet Paysagiste; the Kingston University Town House building in London by Grafton Architects; and the Z33 House for Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture in Hasselt (Belgium) by Francesca Torzo.
The two Emerging Architecture finalists are: La Borda cooperative housing in Barcelona, by Lacol; and Enrico Fermi School in Turi, by BDR bureau.
In March the jury will be visiting the five works vying for the Architecture prize, and the winner will be announced at the end of April, along with that of the Emerging Architecture award.
