Frizz23 in Berlin

Deadline Studio

Located in Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighborhood, this is a mixed-use building, containing offices and apartments. Frizz23 is the fruit of participatory processes aimed at forming a cooperative of 32 small businesses and non-profit organizations which, threatened by the German capital’s rapid gentrification, united to protect their workspaces in a publicly owned area. In this way, all the participants in the project are users and investors at the same time. The units were planned individually, in accordance with needs and potentials of the users, varying in size between 28 and 280 square meters. The building’s stepped form mirrors its complex cultural and social program, but the facade’s panels of blue aluminum and charred wood serve as unifiers.
