The Tulip viewing tower

The firm of Norman Foster has presented a proposal for a 305-meter tower which, if permission to go ahead with construction is obtained, will be London’s tallest structure, rising beside another Foster work: the building at 30 St Mary Axe, known as ‘The Gherkin.’ The new design is like a tulip with petals of steel and glass and a slender stem of concrete. This tourist attraction – featuring transparent footbridges and rotating pods includes a panoramic restaurant and an education center for children. Foster + Partners drew up the project for J Safra Group, a private bank that currently owns the Gherkin. The Tulip could start to go up in 2020 and open in 2025.
