Residential Complex in Jesolo
Gonçalo Byrne  Pedro Sousa

The town center of Jesolo has been the subject of a series of debates and urban plans throughout the last decade, in which Kenzo Tange and Aurelio Galfetti have played a prominent role. The objective has been to find the best relationship possible between the built fabric, the sea and the natural area of pine trees, protecting the coast and the landscape.

Within the urban plan and in an environment that has been taken up by single-family houses with a very low density, this project uses the territory in a more intense and respectful way, also trying to blend the buildings into their natural context. To accomplish this the landscaping works have been particularly important, generating among other elements a series of elevated footbridges that go through the plot without touching the trees or the terrain as they lead up to the beach. Consisting of a 26-story tower and three blocks of four-story apartments, as well as retail spaces and a spa, the project establishes a contrast between both types using in the tower a very elaborate screen of greenish-blue glass sheets that soften its strict geometry, and in the apartment blocks a warm cladding of Canadian cedarwood.
