Reciprocal House in London

Gianni Botsford Architects

Gianni Botsford’s project respectfully integrates the enlargement of a house built by Norman Foster in the late 1960s in Hampstead, north of central London. The result is a four-story building with a ground level that shows the original steel trusses, concrete blocks, and large aluminum-framed window. New pieces are placed over these preexisting elements, establishing a reciprocal relationship with Foster’s work with a limited palette of materials. The existing construction is thus given new life and completed. The scheme addressed the context through careful analysis of the place, seeking to ensure privacy while give views of the surroundings to enjoy, making the most of natural light. The exterior is given a skin of perforated aluminum.
