On a small budget the Japanese firm kurosawa kawaraten has transformed a house in Ichihara, in Chiba Prefecture, into an office. The traditional timber construction has been given new life. Non-structural partitions that fragmented the interior space were removed. The reconfiguration resulted in a mezzanine level with views of the surroundings, for which a part of the bottom level was lowered, with minimal effect on the external form of the original structure. The foundations of the cabin were executed with concrete blocks that had to be reinforced. Part of the earth dug out during the process was reused to clad the reception counter.
