The Treviso-based practice of Michel Carlana, Luca Mezzalira, and Curzio Pentimalli built the new Music School of Bressanone, which was founded in 1961 and is among the most important cultural institutions in the Alpine region of South Tyrol. The tinted concrete building presents a main volume containing three above-ground levels, the highest one set back from the external facade line to reduce visual impact. Beside it is an open space, a courtyard accessible to the public and delimited by some two-story perimetral constructions, in the manner of a town wall, that harbor storage and stairs. The facades were given different decorative treatments, all bush-hammered by hand, combining smooth surfaces with traditional patterns.
