Addressing two different programs, the complex breaks up into interconnected separate volumes on the banks of the Pisuerga River. The largest, at the site’s north end, harbors the auditorium seating 608. The smaller ones contain the music school’s classrooms.

This ‘atomization’ avoids a visually massive building and results in a better blending with the natural environs as well as better acoustics – so that sounds produced in different spaces do not mix, a must in facilities of this kind. It also creates open courtyards that are thought of as an extension of the surrounding park. The classroom ceilings are likewise fragmented into triangular pieces made of different materials, forming an irregular geometry that disperses sound homogeneously.
