The spatial configuration of these facilities seeks to create a ‘city’ for abandoned or stray dogs and cats. Run by Ahgtinsa, this new municipal service in Granada offers protection and accommodation for animals to be subsequently given up for adoption. An old plant nursery has been turned into a controlled, safe haven for cats and dogs, a place where they can move around and interact with the environment and with people.

Taking inspiration from the classic doghouse, Paloma Baquero and Juan Antonio Serrano have designed prefabricated modules of reinforced concrete, optimized for mass production. Different pieces are configured with a single mold, allowing for small variations to make them easily adaptable to future enlargements. The modules are combined with playgrounds, forming rows of houses. Frames of galvanized steel with electrowelded meshes form exterior separations, entrances, and individual yards.
