Sukunfuku Studio

A work of the Asturian firm sukunfuku Studio – Miguel Huelga and Iria de la Peña – this museum stands on the slope of Mount Castillo, surrounded by the winding road that leads to the caves it harbors. Inserted into a complex topography, the C-shaped volume is organized around a central courtyard, facing the natural inclination of the site, where it forms a vegetal grandstand.

Construction-wise the building is split into two blocks. The lower part presents concrete walls that hold back the terrain, while the glazed facades look toward the courtyard and entrance area. Over this base rises the limestone roof, which sews together three volumes, folds to become part of the façade, and generates a contrast of colors, scales, and textures in the elevation.
