Casa Emma in Morelia (Michoacán)

This residential project seeks to convey serenity and calm through the manipulation of light. To do this it carefully explores how to capture light shining from above, generating an enveloping experience. The Emma House is also thought out as an excavation exercise where what’s extracted is a void in the shape of a troje (a traditional granary structure in villages of the Meseta Purépecha, a region of the Mexican state of Michoacán), which Emma had a strong personal connection. For this reason, wood is the predominant material inside. Because the 54.35-square-meter house would rise on a very small plot, it was necessary to illuminate and ventilate it from overhead, in addition to maximizing efficiency in the use of the spaces.
