Meant to be a place for reflection, silence, and prayer, and for a community whose members practice different religions, this underground chapel disappears in the landscape of San Antonio Baspul, a locality within the municipality of Chicxulub Pueblo. The Mexican practice of Enrique Javier Cabrera Peniche designed it with a minimum of elements, creating a bare space. The entrance frame, built with concrete, marks the start of a ramp flanked by chakás trees as tall as 15 meters and leading to a single nave. Stone walls with a wrinkled texture hold up the ceiling formed by concrete vaults. Resembling the inner end of a cave, the altar presents an open roof framing the sky. The presence of water here is a reference to the cenotes that abound on the Yucatán Peninsula.
