A project titled 'Lagar,' submitted by DIIR, the Madrid practice of Ricardo Fernández, David Meana, Ignacio Navarro, and Iñigo Palazón, has earned them first place – with a 10,000 euros award – in the public and open-to-all competition, organized by the Extremadura region's health and social services ministry, for the enlargment of a mental health center on Avenida Martín Palomino in Plasencia. Selected out of 42 entries, the design presents a perimetral arrangement of rooms opening out to the exterior, each facade striking a dialogue with green areas. Circulation is through a spacious bright gallery that also serves as an acoustic buffer. The composition includes two transversal volumes for communal zones, positioned in a way that forms three courtyards of similar dimensions.
