2 Murray Road Tower in Hong Kong

Zaha Hadid Architects

Located in the heart of the city’s central business district, beside I.M. Pei’s Bank of China Tower, this 36-floor office building on Murray Road replaces a multi-story car park with a scheme that reinterprets the forms of the bud of a Bauhinia x blakeana, the flower of which appears in Hong Kong’s flag. Raising the base above ground to make room for courtyards and gardens, the project connects with the adjacent public parks. A curving glass facade and a high-resistance steel structure are thought out to withstand the zone’s frequent typhoons and obtain the highest certifications in sustainability. Construction started in 2019.
