The Norwegian firm Snøhetta has won the competition for the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, which is to go up in Medora, North Dakota, on the banks of the Little Missouri River. Selected out of 40 entries, including the proposals of co-finalists Studio Gang and Henning Larsen, the winning scheme mitigates the impact of wind with a gently sloping roof. Integrated into the landscape, the complex is held together by a web of paths and includes small pavilions conducive to reflection and to relish of views of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The construction will draw from local materials and sustainable energy systems.
