As every summer since 2000, the Serpentine Gallery in London presents the temporary pavilion located in Kensington Gardens, designed this time by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and by the Chinese artist and architect Ai Weiwei. Taking an archaeological approach, the project brings to light the traces of the former pavilions, testifying to their greater or lesser intervention in the natural environment of the park. A platform roof – covered by a sheet of water reflecting atmospheric skies of London – is suspended 1.4 meters above the grass of the park and rests on eleven columns, characterizing each past pavilion, and a twelfth column, representing the current structure.
