One of the images most admired by Le Corbusier was that photo of the Fiat cars racing along the test track that crowned the Lingotto factory in Turin. This building, similar in size to the other modern giant (the Karl-Marx-Hof in Vienna), has become an obligatory reference when talking about the new functional and symbolic spirit that inspired modern architects.
But while the meanings associated with buildings often have their inertia linked to the forms, their intended use often changes in a shorter period of time, especially when it comes to industrial facilities. Thus, Fiat's most famous factory has not been able to resist the renovating impulse that characterizes the company.
