Antonio Vaillo and Juan Luis Irigaray’s proposal has been selected as winner of the competition called by the Pamplona City Hall to build two churches for the city with a prototype that is inspired in the building traditions from the twelfth to the fourteenth centuries – when the small churches crowning the mountains of the different towns of Navarre shared similar characteristics such as the crossed-shaped plan, the half-hexagon shaped apse or the porticos in the south entrances. This time, however, the team has designed a contemporary prototype structured by a sequence of buttresses which are made with bricks from the local quarries.
