On view through 16 July at the Roppongi Museum in Tokyo is ‘Miss Dior: Stories of a Miss,’ an exhibition designed by Shohei Shigematsu, a partner at OMA, which walks visitors through almost eight decades of the history and creativity of the Miss Dior perfume.

Seven rooms experiment with something as immaterial as a fragrance, presenting not a linear narrative but many overlapping ones. One room is ‘Fields of Flowers,’ where one experiences the five floral scents of the latest Miss Dior perfume. Here an abstract flower made of wavy fabric forms five niches shaped like human-scale atomizers. The characteristic ribbon that adorns Miss Dior bottles is untied along the linear ‘Stories of a Miss’ room. ‘Miss Dior: The Birth of Ready-to-Wear’ presents the first prêt-à-porter line launched by the fashion house in 1967. ‘The Miss Dior Dream’ is a journey through an undulating landscape of key creations in Miss Dior haute-couture, combined with artworks and designer perfume bottles.
