New Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam

New Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam

OMA - Office for Metropolitan Architecture

Seating 63,000 spectators, the new stadium of the football club Feyenoord Rotterdam will be the largest in the Netherlands. The project led by David Gianotten – with Kees van Casteren and Shinji Takagi – of the Dutch firm OMA draws inspiration from the team’s current home, known as De Kuip (the bathtub), formed by several continuous curved levels close to the pitch. The complex is to be multifunctional, conceived to accommodate a variety of other large-scale events, such as concerts and congresses. LOLA Landscape Architects will fit out the concourse around the stadium, with public spaces along the banks of the Maas River. After getting this schematic design officially approved by Feyenoord, OMA will proceed to develop it in detail, and the stadium is programmed to open in 2023.
