Oncopole Hospital in Bir el Djir

Lecoc Arquitectura

Located in the Usto neighborhood of Bir El Djir, this project by the Valencian firm Lecoc Arquitectura —with Alicia Medrano and Fernando Pedrosa at the helm— shows a clear-cut and compact massing on an irregular site, maximizing its useful area. The spaces are organized around a central courtyard that guarantees natural lighting and ventilation in the various floor levels of the hospital, a center for oncological diagnosis and treatment.

The facades present a continuous skin that unifies the complex, which is composed of long planes in which lattices of local tradition are reinterpreted, acting as sun shields and giving privacy. The different configurations address the functions required inside, where the light tones of natural claddings predominate in an interplay of opaque, perforated, and transparent elements.
