Native Narrative

The Danish studio Native Narrative designed this elevated pavilion where children and adolescents – the 4–17 age group – can play and study after school hours. Located in Mas-in Village, in the Philippine island of Leyte, the 9x7-meter facility is a reading space – with two lavatories – that can serve as a shelter during emergencies. In a region of frequent typhoons, earthquakes, and floods, the resistance of the simple structure of columns is reinforced with concrete. The plywood furniture was made by local carpenters, and the seat covers of pandan (fiber from the leaves of the local pandanus tree), by native weavers.
