Although the earthquake, of 5.1 magnitude on the Richter scale, was felt in the whole region of Murcia – and even in the provinces of Granada, Almería, Albacete, Málaga, Alicante, Ciudad Real and Jaén – the devastating action concentrated along a straight line passing through the neighborhood of La Viña, in Lorca, where the urban landscape was completely transformed. The winning proposal for the reconstruction, by the Madrid-based team of Atxu Amann, Andrés Cánovas and Nicolás Maruri under the motto ‘Modulorca’, presents a modular system of courtyard houses that is applicable to the entire neighborhood.
