The block called Kontorhaus Mitte represents one of the forms of action implemented for the reconstruction of the northern Friedrichstadt, consisting of commissioning different architects for the various fragments of the complex, under the coordination of one of them. This system was widely tested in the South Friedrichstadt as part of the IBA experience, and its aim is to artificially recreate the construction form of the traditional city. In this case, the architect coordinating the project was the former IBA director Josef Paul Kleihues, who established the general volumetry on which the other designers worked. The coordinator was also the one who developed the large glazed inner courtyard of the block, consisting of a piece in which the partial projects fit together in the manner of a construction game...[+]
