The Feuerle Collection in Berlin

John Pawson

The British architect John Pawson has turned a World War II telecommunications bunker in the central Berlin neighborhood of Kreuzbweg into a private museum containing the Désiré Feuerle Collection. The sobriety of the military installations engages in dialogue with old objects from Southeast Asia and contemporary artworks by authors like John Cage, Adam Fuss, Cristina Iglesias, and Anish Kapoor. The naked skeleton of the construction is kept practically intact, showing the thick concrete walls and columns without ornamentation. With a total floor area of 6,480 square meters, the galleries are carefully lit in a way that exalts the collection.
