Laherrère Center in Pau

CoBe Architecture & Paysage  WEEK

The Laherrère Center is part of an urban renewal program for the Saragosse district of Pau, the capital of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of France’s Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It rises on the site of an old hospice that was unoccupied and in very poor condition, which was demolished. The ground levels of the two buildings are characterized by concrete arches of varying height, taken from local architectural tradition. The five upper floors present light wooden facades.

Giving rise to a public square, the volumes arranged in an L contain 115 apartments for students and 60 for young workers, spaces for professional training and integration activities, offices, coworking facilities, a police station, and a multipurpose hall for a range of events.
