Gallery for Gilbert & George in London
SIRS Architects

The London firm SIRS Architects – Manuel Irsara and Sebastian Soukup – has transformed a 19th-century brewery into an exhibition gallery for the artists Gilbert Prousch and George Passmore. Located on a narrow street in Spitalfields, in the East End, and close to Gilbert & George’s current home-studio on Fournier Street, it is designed as a tribute to the British capital’s architectural heritage, combining historical, restored, and contemporary elements. A traditionally crafted wrought-iron green gate with the artistic duo’s initials G&G welcomes visitors in. The gallery comprises three exhibition spaces varying in size, arranged across three levels. Two new volumes are partly built with reclaimed bricks. The basement was carefully built with 13 micropiles.
