Construction of the Cloud 9 Sports Center has now begun in Shijiazhuang, the capital of China’s northwestern province of Hebei, for completion in 2025. Designed by Ma Yansong/MAD Architects, the building encompasses 2,918 square meters undergound and 2,299 above ground.

The facilities include a gym, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, an athletics track, a bar, and an observation deck for panoramic views, besides green roofs and landscaped areas that help to blend the complex into the environment, in the manner of the extension of an existing park. The exterior of the building is clad in a translucent ETFE membrane material with a metallic coating, reflecting the surroundings. Further enhancing the functionality and sustainability of the complex are cooling towers stategically situated on the second level, which solve the problem of ventilating the subsoil and optimize air circulation.
